Hi. I have a Bearded Dragon and recently moved him to a 40 gallon enclosure. I heard that they do not need heat pads, however, there are some nights that get very cold in my house and I would like to be able to keep some heat closer to the ground for him. I would of course cover the exact spot of the pad so he can not lie directly on top of it. However, I do not want to heat the entire floor of the tank, but maybe just half. With that said, would the Zoo Med one made for 10-20 gallon tanks do that for me? Or would I need to buy the one for 30-40 gallons? I use tile as a substrate as well. I put a heat pad there for up to 5 gallons, but it doesn’t feel like it is doing much of anything. Thanks!

i used to have one a bearded dragon. i personally think a 10-20 gallon heatpad would be fine. mine had one too because our house sometimes got cold at night just like yours...and by the way, wat do u mean by, "tile" like flooring tile? if so, i think that sounds like a good idea, but it might be harder for the heat to get through...good luck!

Thanks! Yup, I meant flooring tile. Not a super smooth one though. He seems to like it, and he has branches to climb on to as well. Its also really easy to clean. A small heat pad doesn't heat it up too much, but the tile above the pad is slightly warm to the touch, but no where near hot. I also bought a rheostat to lower the heat pad if needed. He is now almost a year old and about 18-19 inches. They make awesome pets.
