oooo - ants are NOT a good thing - but you know that
Flooding your plant will not get rid of them all. I would get him a new plant, repot it with fresh, bagged potting soil (no perlite). I would remove him from his cage for a while and give it a good cleaning outside hosing it down. If you have a screen cage there are usually openings at the corners where the ants will get into and continue to live in the cage. I ended up caulking all the corners. Aquarium silicone is good but takes 24 hours to lose toxicity, so I found a plain white caulk that has no (low) odor and it worked great.
A few years ago I recall someone posting that lobster roaches got into those channels, bred and the cage was covered with them. He had a Hel* of a time getting rid of them!! Good Luck!
