Picture of tank

Melgrj7 May 03, 2007 09:43 PM

I took a picture of my hermanns tortoise's tank. Just cleaned it the other day, so the seeds haven't grown yet, but in a week or two there will be more weeds and grasses sprouting up. You can see him munching on one of the dandelions next to the wood, on the right. There are two points in which the wood go up, that he can get under, its hard to tell in the picture. He usually just climbs over it though. He basks on the rock pile after eating a big meal. There is about a 4-5 inch deep substrate, organic dirt and spagnum moss. He makes holes, usually 2 or 3 and sleeps in them. One on the warmer side, and one in the middle a bit to the left, and sometimes one over on the far left side. I find where he sleeps has a lot to do with how much he ate. If he ate a lot, he sleeps on the warmer side, if not, he sleeps in the middle hole or on the cooler side. The heat emitters and UV light all turn off at night but the dirt probably holds some heat into the night on the warm side.
