Leopard Frogs?

chong188 Aug 14, 2003 04:09 PM

hi my mom lives on an acreage and they have dozens of Northern Leopard Frogs a.k.a. Rana pipiens pipiens, and im sure my dragons would make a quick meal out of these guys. i was wondering though if this would not be that great of an idea. if you think its is not a good idea because of maybe parasites, i could raise them from eggs which i have done in the past.
anyways thanks for all the help

I don't think that's a good idea. Frogs secrete a poison for their skin, and it can hurt your dragon. And even if you raised it from egg, parasites can be transmitted through the mother, so you'd have to get the breeding frogs treated.

Snakes eat them so i thought maybe they could too. But ill take your word for it i know the toads (dakota toads a.k.a. Bufo hemiophrys) they have at my moms acreage secrete some sort of a liquid cuz everytime i catch them they disperse it all over my hands.

They can eat them but they are more likely to convey desease and parasites because they are Poikilothermic like the WD's and are subject to many of the same pathogens. Snakes that eat them have evolved a high tolarance for such.
