Im looking to buy a green tree python but wanted to know is there any differences from the Aru,Biak,Sorong besides where there found? Does one get larger or have better coloration as adults. I have read the Biak is more aggressive but wasnt sure how true that was thanks Alex

while Biaks have a reputation as being more bitey in tendency, there are plenty of exceptions out there. I have one of each....one is a nasty little witch, one doesn't bite when handled. As far as the other mainland types, there's no telling what you'll get. Looks can be similar to each other and there's really no reliable way to tell where an animal originally came from. Most original imports are named for the port they were shipped from, not where they were originally caught. That said, there are certain characteristics that are typical of the type. I find the Sorong types for the most part are quite docile as are many of the mainland types. They are all beautiful, so you'll never go wrong with any of them. Biaks for all their temperament issues can have some of the most interesting and long color changes of any of the types and so can be pretty fun that way. The most important thing you can do is get your animal from someone reputable and stay away from imports as your first animal.

The book I linked to has some good reading on Green Tree Pythons and Emerald Tree Boas.

Hi,

You may find this useful:
http://www.sprucenubblefarm.com/chondros/greentreepythoncaresheet_localitytypes.php

Mainland (sorong, jaya, etc) = about 4 ft = small
Aru = about 5 = medium
Biak = about 6 = large

Personally the biaks are agressive hunters (glass strikers) but I have found them to be just as handelable as antyhing esle. Sorongs have the rep for calm and handleable

Like all things GTP your milage will vary dramatically - every snake is a true individual.
