My God...

medyssa May 04, 2007 12:50 AM

Ok so I know I am just a beginner, but doesnt she look ready to pop? This is Cleo the BRB I picked up last year from a guy who rescued her from starvibng in some woman's house. Unfortunately the guy got a bit overzealous and overfed her and she decided that she didn't want to eat. I got her in November, just in time to start cooling her down and there's no doubt in my mind that Noah did his work since she hasn't eaten for me at all. She is almost 6 pounds (or was about 5.75 the last time i weighed her a couple weeks ago) but I havent wanted to try to get her onto the scale in case I stress her out. about how many do you guys think she has?
So far she is the only one showing this much and I might put everyone else back in with my males.

with that hammer, building cages for all the little ones to come?

Looking good, no way to tell but a healthy large female can easily have litters up around 30. I typically get litters from my large females in the 20's

let me say she is a beautiful rainbow boa and while I am no expert either, she looks very gravid and also looks like they are towards the back half meaning they aren't too far away from being born, although I have only bred them a few times I had one female with a 4 month gestation who basked for 12 hours daily at 85.5 degrees, so get ready it won't be too long, when did they first mate? last copulation date? Just curious, I study info like this.

The last copulation date was around New Years, I only kept Cleo in with Noah for nine days, from the 26th of december (yeah I know I started early, but she was obviously ready, the guy who had her before me was keeping her overfed and cool)through the 3rd of January...the whole time i saw them locked up together at least twice a day the whole time except for the last couple days. And thank you I love her coloring but most people think its an ugly orange brown, she's one of my sweetest though!

that's not so early, I live in NJ and when I bred retics they bred only in sept-nov (begining) and my brazilians bred in oct-feb. At end of summer I turn all heaters and other devices but 12/12 light cycle and use NJ autumn weather to start cycling my snakes, starts at end of august from those chilly nights. Dave lives out west in California I think and it doesnt get cold there till later.

Dave and I live about 30 minutes from each other, so the climate is very similar, almost exact. I am just a bit more inland than he is. I base my breeding schedule off of what he recommends in his 101 but with a few adjustments that coincide with my school schedule. Its easier to have everything happen while i am out of classes.

Jess,
..She looks great. I love it when they look nice and very gravid like that. My guess is that because she is still carrying them up a little high they are not due for another month. When was the last time you saw her bred?
GOOD LUCK!!!
Jeff

I would say they last bred on New Years day, I hope you're right about it being another month, although I did notice that the angle that I took the picture at makes it look like the babies are farther up, theyre a couple inches closer to her tail than what it looks like in the picture. I'm so not ready, although the anticipation this year isnt as bad as last year, I want them to stay in because I havent gotten a baby rack yet....Eek! to say the least.

I used rubbermaid shoe boxes for my brazilian babies, those rubbermaids have tight fitting lids and stack rather nicely, although a rack with a lidless system is definately more conveinent. Simple setup, moist paper towel, water bowl, and little hideboxes from things floating around Home depot!
