Enclosure

deven May 04, 2007 10:40 PM

I just built this 5'H x 4'W x 2'D enclosure. After sealing the back with a blue colored material, I wondered if it would effect the snakes at all. is it okay?

the outside isn't done of course so don't mind the dark spots, it's the inside i'm concerned with.

Thanks!

What is the "blue colored material" exactly? It looks like wood. If it is...it needs to be sealed or it will rot from the moisture. How are you planning on heating that? It will be difficult to get a good gradient in such a large cage so that it doesn't get too cold at the bottom and to keep humidity up in it. Size wise though, can't say I blame you for wanting to have something big. My Sorong girl would love a cage that big!

If i told you all my trades secrets, they'd not be secrets, LOL.

of course, the wood is sealed. the blue is the pigment i put into the sealer i use. this think can hold water if i wanted it to which as is, was to be for a water dragon but the owner descid to sell her pet.

anyway, the thermo gradient is also easy to maintain if you know how. hoods, quite fans, direct spot lights, heat panels etc;

anyway, would the snake have issues with blue or do they not see color very well? maybe this should have a carpet instead huh...lol.

The color won't matter. We've used various colors in the cages including green, white, black, brown and various other shades. You can pretty much use what you want. Besides the blue is not that bright. Once you get the perches, decor, and perhaps plants, it won't be noticable. As long as you can maintain heat and humidity, you'll be fine.

right on. i remember someone told me that certian colors effect certian herps, not sure if it's true and i'm starting to think it was just nonsense.

I'm going to build it up like i did this but of course, a better cage...

Thanks for your help!
