That is truely one of the most beautiful boas I have ever seen. I am a sucker for a soft appearance. Awesome!

I still say that Boa is going to prove to be het for Leusistic. IT is the equivalent of the Mohave Ball Python. I look forward to seeing babies from that animal whenever you have the great fortune of making them! Absolutely mind boggling!

Hopefully we will see offspring before the end of the year. But because of my breeding ethics, it will be several years before anything recessive is revealed. I just need to find another adult female CA for him.

........into a C.A Hypo, Anery or some other C.A Morph to maximize your breeding. I am sure someone out there will have something to loan you! LOL
Great looking Boa!
Good Luck!

I am not a big fan of Morphs. About the only morph that I do like is Hypo. And I wold like to get a hypo CA female at some time in the near future, but they are a little hard to come by.

You may have to start liking another "morph" if that little fellow proves himself to be actually carrying a mutant gene that make more babies just like him. When you have babies, if half of them come out like him, that will prove he is at least a dominant "Phantom" mutation, unless you decide to name them something else. There is still the lingering possibility that he is actually carrying a co-dominant acting gene. That gene could be the Leusistic gene if he is a visual het. I say that again just to be the first to mention the possibility. It could happen. But either way, he is still an unbelievable animal that anyone would be proud to have in their collection.

Right now he is just a pretty snake. Pictures really don't capture him well. He is stunning. I would be happy for him to live a long healthy life. Anything else is a bonus. If he does prove out to be something interesting, I certainly would not turn down selling offspring to fund my conservation initiatives and public outreach programs.

Not to bring up a bad topic. But have you had live liver biopsies done on that boa since the IBD issue in your collection?

The Phantom is awesome and I'd love to get one if it proves out, but the IBD issue has me concerned.

What do you think of Leopards? I think the soft colors with a Leopard pattern would be incredible!

Yup, I have had dozens of liver biopsies done over the last two years. All of these tested negative in both runs. Of course, even if the phantom proves out, it will several years down the road before any actually become available.

ChrisGilbert May 06, 2007 04:37 PM

I'm glad you've been proactive with this issue.
Too many cases out there of people just trying to cover it up, and that REALLY hurts everyone and puts a lot of animals at risk.

Good job dealing with it and looking for help!

Oh yeah, mine was probably the most publisized case. I tried to make public everytime I ran tests or had to euthenize or any other information. The phantom and his siblings were the only survivors because they were born just weeks before so they actually grew up in my venomous room. On the upside, I provided over 50 biological samples for IBD research and tey are a major part of the grant proposal.

ChrisGilbert May 06, 2007 05:41 PM

Once again, good job.

I've heard of other cases too, but they were either covered up or denied (even when proof was shown).
