prob. hypo brooks king

KingOz Aug 14, 2003 06:03 PM

This is an update on my female (under a year) hypo brooks king.
She has always had very loose poops, but other than that she is doing great. I used to feed her pinks..but based on the info I got here...the pinks were the cause of her loose poops. So, I am giving her fuzzies. She still seems to small for hoppers...at least the frozen rodent kind...but from what I have seen of other places the mice frozen rodent produces are big and fat. So...when I order again I will order from a suplyer that I know has smaller thinner but good mice. Anyway...her poops are still very loose. She eats 4 to 5 fuz a week 2 or 3 fuz 2x a week. And she seems very active and healthy excp. her poops. I called a number of vets that were members of the reptile vet assocation..and they wanted to see her and a fresh poop. I said that I cannot take off from work when a fresh poop arrives but I could mail it overnight to them...and they said no way the PO would not do that...but I have heard of vets that will do that...problem is..I cannot remember which one.

So..I am back to sq. one. I am giving her a small amount of minerall 2 and vits with her food to make sure she is getting enough ca every other time I feed her. I have heard about pancur being used to treat internal bugs, but I am unsure of the dosing and my king is only about a foot long....so I am worried about over doseing. And I am not sure she has bugs...as the only evd. is her very loose stools...she is not dehydraded, I gently pinched her skin and it bounched right back. Any ideas?

Does anyone know a GOOD vet that will take poop samples over night po. so I can atleast rule out internal bugs.

Thanks.

It might just be the way she is, or could be bugs. You really need to get her stool checked to be sure.
But the minerals and vitamins might well be the cause of it. They might well be too rich for her and causing her loose stools. How long have you been giving her that? Have you ever tried NOT giving it to her and feeding just plain old pinks and fuzzies instead? (I assume you are dusting them with the minerals & vitamins) It's not necessary to be giving her any kind of supplements, mineral, vitamin, calcium, anything like that. She will get all she needs from her food, and it sounds like you're giving her ample amounts of that.
Best of luck.

A stool culture is the best way to find out for sure what the problem is, if any at all. Now, if you are used to seeing boa and python poop, colubrid poop is going to look runny and have more of a smell than do the boids.

The vits are new...she had had loose poop since I got her. It was people on the forum who said (I was feeding her pinks at the time) that she was not getting enough ca from pinks...she is big enough to eat fuz so I thought some vits and ca would not hurt. I only give them to her every other feeding. I would love to have a vet look at her poop but like I said in my earler post...I cannot mail freash poop in the po (so said one vet) nor can I take off work to drive to the closest vet as soon as she poops...(that is why I asked if anyone knew of a vet that would take poop via overnight mail).
