Quick Quesion: What is a lesser?

bruce_y May 06, 2007 12:09 PM

I've seen a lot of talk about Lessers lately (or is it "Lessors"?). What it is? And how do they relate to and differ from Mojave's in terms of genetics and appearance?

RDR received an import male that he called the Platinum - when he bred out the Platinum he got - Lesser Platinums (aka the Lesser) and normals - Now the Lesser is a Co-dom morph when bred together or to a Mojave you get a Lucy. Lessers from the RDR line may also contain a hidden not yet determined gene to produce the Platinum. Others have imported animals that look and act like a Lesser and are called Lessers but may or may not contain Platty Gene. There are some that theorize that Lessers and Mojaves are variations of the same Morph and that Butters and Lessers are the same as well - but that is all arguement for a different thread.

Hope that helps!

"Lessers from the RDR line may also contain a hidden not yet determined gene to produce the Platinum."

If it turns out that the addition of a single new allele of the same gene as lesser and mojave turns lessers into platinums then no lesser could carry that allele, or it would already be a platy. In this scenario, the first generation normal offspring of a platy hatch as 100% chance carriers and possible carriers would be the normals from those normals but not the lesser line decedents.
