Water garden

maskdt May 06, 2007 08:29 PM

I've begun to consider setting up a mini-water garden in a 10 gallon tank. I'm planning to make it about 2/3 water with some land for amphibians to rest on (or to put in one of those floating turtle landings or something that pokes out of the water.) I'm probably going to put in some african dwarfs, since I have some experience with them, but I'm wondering what other amphibians (preferably frogs) would do well in this sort of habitat.

I'm also planning to use live plants, particularly java moss and a water lily or two. Any tips on setting up this habitat would be greatly appreciated.

I personally would go alittle bigger, try a twenty gallon long fish tank. they measure 30Lx12Wx12H, you'll have more room to play with, and wont be as crammed as you would be in a ten gallon, and with the ten extra inches you can do a nicer land area more naturally. but what ever you decide to do please post some pics of it, everybody sets these up differently, so its neat to see the end result.

ps. make sure you keep the java moss under control, that stuff can spread super fast.

Well, I've got the basic layout finished and have the filter going. However, the driftwood I put in there, along with the gravel, clouded up the water like crazy! I'm still working to clear it with PClear and daily partial water changes, so no frogs in there for at least a month. Oh well. Gives me time to buy one of those floating turtle platform and a plant or two. Since I suspect my fish killed my last plants before they could get anchored, I'll wait at least two weeks after putting the plants in to put in any animals.
