Raleigh Show

drzrider May 07, 2007 10:19 AM

I wanted to say hi to everyone I met at the Raleigh show this year. It goes to show that monitor keepers are good people.

I had a very good time there and saw some nice animals. Of course there were the half dead niles, skinny blackhroats, and a pitiful water. There were also some beautiful monitors in good decent shape there. I am still drooling over the blue and green tree monitors, croc monitor, and the large argus that was taken there on Sunday.

I even got a kiss that freaked my wife out. HAHA It was all very cool.

Ahh, I was there too on Saturday, I'm sorry I missed seeing the large argus... Those green trees did look pretty nice! I was excited to get to see that young croc monitor, I do hope someone with some experience gets him. There didn't seem to be AS many savs and niles at that show this year but maybe it was just me... I remember hanging out around the nile vendors and giving the heads up to unsuspecting mothers of their future requirements... It's downright dispicable how some vendors try to push on those monitors to unknowing buyers. Cheers, Lance

YEP! That was me! I was the guy who brought the 4 ft Argus in as trade. I acquired a near perfect Female Green Tree Monitor for 600 in cash and my argus. CRAZY! but I have a male now for 3 years and needed a mate for him. If I am able to get eggs from these two I will make up that investment.

I know it is a rarity and may take some time but I am crossing my fingers.

I ran across Mr Nessies MOM (DAD) and saw Nessie. Very nice animal.

I have my Prasinus Male in quarantine from the male until I get a fecal.
Update with PICS this weekend!!!!

It was great meeting Ed and Tammy, Roman, Blue, and others at the show on both days. We brought Nessie to Sunday's show and, I think, the "kiss" Ed referred to was the bite from Nessie on his ear when he was holding her. It came totally out of the blue - no sign of aggression or discomfort - just CHOMP down on the ear and then release. I told Ed that Nessie just wanted to pierce his ear (in seven places) to look like some of the other guys, with multiple piercings, she had seen at the show.HAHAHA Other than that, she was a well mannered docile ornate monitor who allowed alot of human contact over a 5 hour event. She was the ONLY ornate monitor there and we did stress the fact that Nessie is an exception to the norm of what to expect from raising a nile or ornate monitor. We just have a way with them, I just don't know how it is. I am looking forward to the Sept. show.

Cheers,
NessiesMom
