Brave young man.....

A friend brought his cousin over. This was the first time he's ever handled a snake. I'd say that's pretty courageous. And yes he immediately got tagged and yes he was pretty drunk. I hope his parents don't see this!

Being drunk sounds like a fine time to begin handling unwieldy snakes. Good job!

haha sure he'll learn some respect from a harmless but foul-tempered beauty.

i give my props to this photo, this snake (which looks great), and to the OP.

I should have known someone would get bent out of shape. I can't control the habits of the worlds teenage population. It's not like I was serving him beer. I myself (many years ago)used to throw down a beer or two before I was of age. And I don't even know if the kid is underage. They asked to see the animals and I said yes. And thanks, it is an impressive beauty, although usually grumpy.

If you ask me everyone has been overly nice. Handing a big “grumpy” (your words) snake over to someone who has been drinking (your term was drunk) is never a good idea. He could have hurt the snake. The snake could have hurt him. Sure, he was in no direct danger from the snakebite, but he was at risk of infection from the bite. And what if the wound did get infected? You don’t think you could have been held liable for the medical bills? You knew he had been drinking. You knew the snake might bite. A law school flunky could win a judgment in a case like that.

Let’s be real here. You knew better then to do what you did.

Now how about a picture of the snake without the drunk?

why are people on herp forums always like this? it was the same on rec.pets.herp.

you're not changing anybody's habits by berating them on the internet. just enjoy the picture. or don't.

Why are people like what? Responsible? I believe I've read venomous keepers, legal or otherwise, get bitten most often when deciding to handle snakes while drunk. It's not good practice under any circumstance, and if we come across (offensive as it might be to you) as trying to portray our image as being responsible, especially when the welfare of an animal is involved, feel free to dislike us (sorry to speak for others). And to ask us not to respond to something as, well, dumb as what's going on in that photo, is childish.

In the future I will perform sobriety tests on all guests prior to handling any animals.
