Eggbound Snake?

TONYG May 07, 2007 01:30 PM

I have two female black rats (both over 10 years old) which have been housed together. Last week one (not sure which) layed seven infertile eggs. I've noticed one of the two now has a hard lump about 3/4 of the way down her body. I think this may be egg? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would leave it alone. Almost all of the time a snake will eventually pass a single egg by itself especially if it's only one egg and in the lower fourth of the snake. A few years ago I had a beauty snake pass a single egg almost two months later and it produced a good clutch the next year. In the mean time it was able to eat and pass stools by the egg fine.
When a snake has more than one egg stuck starting near the middle of the body is when you have a serious problem. Randy W.

Also, a meal might help push it out.
