AP T10 cages for Boas?

ChrisGilbert May 07, 2007 05:00 PM

For anyone who uses these cages for boas, can you offer some input on them. Pros, cons, etc.
Comparisons with other companies if you have cages from different places too.

I'm looking at the sliding glass version. And I plan on using my own heat instead of the Cable they install. Still I want to hear from anyone who uses this cage (any of the 3 models) for boas.

I just recieved my cages from Jeff Ronne at BoaPhile and I cant be happier! If your looking for top quality at an affordable price I dont think you can do better, Jeff even includes shipping in the price! Big Jim

I'm using 421D for all my big girls, a 421T and two Rhino Raxx, a 41qt for the males and a 10 drawer philips sweater box rack for babies.

I just want something different and like the design of the T10 with sliding doors the most.

I'm not concerned with cost I'm concerned with quality and durability. I would like to get this kind of cage made out of HDPE or Polypropylene, but no companies make them because they cost twice as much.

Hey Chris,

I have used both for quite some time now, and I am very happy with both. The boaphiles really don't need any explaining, since you already own them. I have 4 T10's, and they are really heavy duty! I just recently moved my collection, and I have moved the T10's on numerous occasions, and they are bulletproof. The 1/2 inch material really seems to hold up much better than the 1/4 inch material on the boaphiles. I have had a few boaphiles crack on me when they've been knocked around, but never had any problems with the AP cages. The AP cages do require a sealant, and it is a pain in my opinion. I really feel that the plastic weld on the Boaphile , as well as its smooth material make for slightly easier cleaning than the AP material.

You did mention that you were considering a different heat source than the rope that AP uses. While I really like the heat rope, they also offer flexwatt on their stuff as well. All you have to do is talk to Mark. He is very open to really customizing an order if it needs it. Animal Plastics has really good customer service, as does Jeff Ronne.

I really think that the two cages are tied. I like AP cages for really big, heavy animals. The boaphiles are great looking, and I use them for small and midsize animals. They are both really nice products.

I had talked to Jeff before, the seals on his cage are a form of PVC cement. You can buy this at a hardware store and seal the AP with it. I'll probably use Silicone though in case I need to ever take them apart for easier transport.

The AP cages themselves are nice. However, the two T10s I've got, I'm selling. The thing I hate is the heat cable. You can shoot the temp in one spot and get 95 then one inch away,it'll be 80. If you use them, I'd get heat panels for heat. I asked Mark (the owner) about getting heat tape installed and he said the plastic was too thick for the tape to be effective. Anyways, I have recently converted to the Boaphile cult (I think there's something in the glue ).

I currently have Boaphiles. Not that I find anything wrong with them, I just want a different style cage.

I will not use the heat from AP. I will either route the bottom and use the Zoo-med cable that isn't as hot. Or I can route out an area on the bottom to place flexwatt there. I imagine for many people this is not possible, but I am able to do it. So there would actually be a small area that is only 1/4" thick so the heat can pass through.

Radiant heat panels are really only good for ambient temps. Boas should have belly heat.
