Milksnake postal stamp !

DMong May 07, 2007 05:41 PM

Hey guys,........I've got a whole mess of snake stamps here at the house, and I've got this cool looking milksnake stamp as well.
I'd like to see what subspecies of milksnake you guys think best depicts the one on this stamp!!!.....I know what it most likely is, but it only says "Lampropeltis triangulum" on the stamp itself, so I'd like to see what kind of subspecies you all think that it most likely represents!!

Remember the U.S. postal stamps from a year or three ago?
It also had reptiles and included a scarlet king stamp.
Cool.

Unfortunately I don't think I have that one.
Any stamp with a pretty little Scarlet King on it has to be a neat lookin' stamp!!......sure wish I had it!, I've always been partial to those little dudes!.

Yeah!,......Sinaloan is what it basically "keys-out" to best represent meristically(13 rbr's), along with Sinaloan's tendency to have a less black obscured tail than "nelsoni", even though the black bands are a tad thick, and fairly tapered at the top!

I'm assuming the artist probably looked at a photo of a real snake to do the artwork,.....not many people would be able to get all those subtle little things that make it a Sinaloan by memory, but then again, I've seen some artists do some "mind-blowing" stuff right off the top of their head that really blew me away!!LOL

I know a girl that can draw someone in pencil that looks like a real b&w photograph, with no grid help for scale whatsoever!

as a matter of fact, just the other day I asked her if she would draw me one of my snakes if I gave her a photo, and she said.."sure thing".......man, I can't wait to see that!....I'll surely post it here so you guys can check it out as well!.

Anyway,..glad you guys liked the stamp.........I have a ton of cool lookin' ones.......Emerald Tree Boa, Coralsnake, Fer-de-lance, Boa Constrictor, Moellendorf's Ratsnake, Mangrove Snake, Black Mamba, Anaconda, Retic constricting rat, Gaboon Viper, San Diego Gartersnake, Bushmaster, Copperhead, Rhinocerous Viper, Trinket Snake, European Viper, Spectacled Cobra, King Cobra, Popes Tree Viper, and Leopard Ratsnake,...just to name a few!...I have hundreds more!, and tons are framed with matted border!....many years ago, my mother was into different wildlife stamps, and she knew I would be interested in the snakes for sure,....so she ordered up a bunch and framed them with nice beveled matting so I could take them to some local herp shows to sell........anyway, she past away last year, and I found a huge box with tons of them in it.

I'll post a few framed ones sometime,....they're at a warehouse right now, as I have to move VERY soon from the house I'm in now.

best regards, ~Doug
