Please Help ! Boa Tail Inflamed/Puffy!!

reptimals May 07, 2007 08:48 PM

Hello, my boas last couple inches of his tail are very puffy and inflamed, it is heavy and seems like it is filled with something like liquid... my boa can't really move/control the end of his tail it b/c it is that heavy/inflamed ... everything is normal up to his vent and then after his vent it inflates so i am thinking it might be something that has to do with his hemiphenes ... I have a vet appointment for him next week but i still wanted to see if anyone else had something similar to this happen and what the diagnosis was??? also is there anything I can do to help him out until i go to the vet ??? anything to help reduce the inflammation? any medications that can be recommended or that have been used successfully so i can atleast give some thoughts to my vet?? I want to have as much knowledge so the right decisions can be made....

ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !!! THANKS!!

Man, that looks really bad. I am sorry I don't have any information to help with this. My only question is, does he have any injuries in that region? When I first read the description my first thought was he was producing sperm and causing a bulge. But that looks alot lower then where you would see a viable male swell.

no he has not been sexed as he is a proven breeder for 2 years already .. he did breed this season .. maybe that had something to do with it?? any thoughts??

Your male has an infected hemipenis. At least one is infected. I have seen it several times with bad results each time. I have no idea how to get the animal to recover from that. I hope your vet is experienced with Reptiles. I would get him in ASAP and not next week.
