Can any of you guys tell the sex of adult black rats just from photos? If so I am going to take and post some pics that you need to help me out. I have had him/her for 17 years now but I have never tried to find out what it is. To me everything is a bot until proven different. He is about 8' and you can still see his pattern pretty well.

Take clear pics of the tails from the side (from vent toward tail tip) and from below. We should be able to make a good guess.

Yes,....like "Shaky" stated, if you take some nice clear shots with the tail pulled nice and straight, so we can see how it tapers from the cloaca to the tip,(from the side, and especially underneath) we can give you a straight answer!

Oh!,....please try to avoid the very common mistake of getting your thumb or fingers in the area just below the cloaca(vent), as this will make identification much tuffer, if not impossible.
