Double Clutching

cmscorns May 08, 2007 01:13 PM

How do you increase the fertility rate of the 2nd clutch?

Last year was the first year that the snakes in my class' breeding colony were large enough to to be bred. 6 of 7 females laid their first clutches of eggs. I did not expect each of them to lay a 2nd clutch but all of them did, only one had any fertile eggs the rest were slugs. If my snakes are going to naturally double clutch I want to make the most of it.

When do allow the females to be bred again after laying eggs?

Besides continued heavy feeding, what else should I do to increase the odds of fertile eggs from the 2nd clutches?

My females should begin laying their clutches in the next week so any advise or timelines of activities is appreciated.

The link to my web- page must be too long. I listed it below(there should not be any spaces in the address.

You need to breed them again, after they lay their first clutch.
Put them together a couple of times a week for a couple of weeks...Good luck...

Thanks for the information.

One of my females laid 16 eggs and 2 slugs tonight, hopefully this cross will produce a good percentage of lavenders like it did last year.

I put pitures onto my website but haven't figured out how to post them here.
