Just a couple of feeding shots & others

Railrider1920 May 08, 2007 08:29 PM

Hi everyone,
I was feeding my BRB and cleaning her cage today. Thought that I'd get a couple of pictures too and share them. I had her in a ten
gal tank while I was cleaning her regular tank. I decided to try to feed her in there as well. She went into a piece of PVC pipe
I put in there for her to hide in while I was cleaning her tank. I could not get her out of the PVC to save my life. I put a
rat pup in the tank, hoping that she would come out. Nothing doing. So I took the piece of pipe and put it and her into
her cage. She came right out. So I grabbed her and was going to put her back into the ten gal tank, thinking that she would
ignore the rat pup because it wasn't warm enough (she usually won't touch it if it's not warm enough). Nope. She latched right
on the second she got near it, while still holding on
to my thumb. I finally got her off me.

Does the size of the lump look ok to you folks? The PS calls those feeders rat pups. They just barley have hair on them. Maybe some peach fuzz. She about 35" long.

Since it's OT tuesday, here are a couple of other shots. My corns and black pine

The last snake, cozmo, had pinky gunk on him so I didn't put him on the blanket.
And the black pine.

Thanks for checking them out.
Rob

nice snakes and kewl feeding shot. Black Pines are interesting captives, I have several from Cherryville Farms Lemke stock. The largest male I have once chased me across the room for a rat offering from my hemostats, was very funny stuff.

First off, nice pics and lump looks fine. Thanks for sharing.

Now for the warning. When I first put the pvc piping on my breeder BRB cages, I used 3". Was never a problem before or during mating season. BUT (there's always a but huh), after ,mating was all done and the females swelle up, one got STUCK in the pipe. She was head down and wasn't leaving the pipes. After a couple of days I was worried so I took apart the tubes. she was jammed in there, couldn't move forward or backward. Once I took the sections apart, she could get some traction and easily slid out. Her head was swollen about twice normal. It did go down after a few minutes and she completely recovered and her litter was fine as well. I hve since replaced all the piping with 4", large enough so they can never get stuck again.

Point being pipes are fine for hides, just make sure it's at least 1 1/2 times the largest girth. Better to be 2x.

Yeah Bob, I'm hoping that cozmo will be wandas pimp.

Frank, would you post a pic of your black pine? Getting chased around by one sounds interesting. How big is it?

Thanks for the info about the pipe Dave. She coiled up against it and did not want out. She doesn't really even go near it while she has the bedding to go under.

Thanks again,
Rob
