Questions About My New Veild

OneTwoManyHerps Aug 14, 2003 09:00 PM

If you didn't read my last post, I just bought a Veild Chameleon from a classmate who went from 250 w/ cage and everything all the way down to 80. He was going to sell it to a pet store that didn't take good care of its herps so I bought it instead! Anyways, I'm not really sure on its age but it smaller than an adult and its a male. I noticed its coloring was a little drab and that one of its hind "ankles" was swollen (possible MBD?). Any ways I didn't notice any crookedness of its back or mouthrot. I am pretty expirienced when it come to cureing sick animals so I'm going to try my best with this guy. He ate about 1/2 dzn large crickets right when I put them in there and after that he started turning more green. Anyways wish me luck and I would love to hear some tips on what else I can do to ensure its happiness!

Hi-

Well like any chameleon it usually takes a good week to get them settled in. Since you also got his original cage and setup he should feel more secure and settle in faster. (unless you added stuff) Veileds are prone to MBD, I would try and find out what the original owners supplement schedule was it might give you even more concern to possible MBD. Be sure to keep up a good calcium/vitamin dusting schedule, a vet can asses the MBD issue with calcium injections and or oral calcium like NeoCal. Hope this helps!
