Lapping Up Too Much Calcium Supplement

kelz0429 May 08, 2007 10:01 PM

Hello all!

I brought a new adult Leo home this weekend and she is just now seeming to become a bit more comfortable--YAY!

She has not yet eaten (I bought her at an expo on Saturday and it is currently Tuesday night), but I noticed tonight that she is sitting next to the milk jug cap full of Rep-Cal, lapping away.

I have never actually SEEN a gecko do this before. I do know that my other gecko does it on occasion but I haven't witnessed it. Have you all ever seen this behavior in action? Does it seem like they are eating a bunch of it when you do see it?

Thanks for the help!

I see mine eating calcium all the time.. every couple days i guess.. It does seem like he's lapping up alot, but I figure he will take what he needs. He probably knows better than me. It is quite funny.. like watching a dog drink out of a water bowl..LOL

Gecko's crave this resource in general, its said to be one of the proven reasons why they lick alot of things.

is it possible that they will take too much on their own??
