How do you feel about feeding gravid females late in their pregnancy. I usually feed until their pre-egg laying shed, but some people say they keep feeding if the female will take it. Just something I was curtious about.

I had a female alterna, that has always been small. She was CH in 99 and a proven female. She also was severly kinked and an overall weak animal. I fed her about a month into gestation, a meal that was slightly smaller than normal. I guess digestion and gestation was too much for her as she died a couple days later. Now I am out of a local female, that I may never be able to replace.

Other than her, I have never had problems feeding them if they would take it, just make sure it is slightly smaller than a normal sized meal.

I have always fed my females if they would eat. I always offered small meals. But just recently Shannon posted something about feeding a gravid snake and found it dead with the food item in its mouth. So this year I stopped feeding some of my females after the pre egg laying shed.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll stick to my original plan, and not feed after the shed. Man, I would be sick if I lost a gravid female because of that.
