How Long Does it take to fill stock tank

Accomplice May 09, 2007 11:28 AM

I'm not 100% sure how much pond I have on my hands but it took about 2 hours of full blast on the garden hose to fill it and it rained pretty steadily the last hour. It is around 15X9X2. I'm guessing around 1,400-1,800 gallons. Anybody know how long it takes on avg. to fill a stock tank by garden hose (where you know the volume it holds)? I'm trying to ballpark my pond capacity.

If my memory serves me, to calculate larger ponds you multiply lenghtXwidthXdepth and then by 7.5.. So by that, your tank is about 2025 gallons..

Whoa! Where'd you get a stock tank that big?! And how much did it cost? I want one of those!

My set up is a pond, not a stock tank. I just wanted to guesstimate the volume of water in my pond based on how long it normally takes to fill up any known # of gallons via a garden hose. So, if somebody said it takes them 30 mins. to fill up a 300 gallon stock tank, I could guesstimate that my 2 hours of fill up was around 1,200 gallons if the flow rates were similar.

Oh, I see. Well it all depends on the rate of flow coming out of your faucet. You could try filling up a 10 gal tub to get a rough estimate of flow. For example, 1 minute to fill a 10 gallon tub = 600 gal/hr.
