Some more breeding questions

erikm May 10, 2007 09:39 AM

All of my females have copulated multiple times now. I introduced one of my females yesterday to the same male as before that she has copulated with twice and she wasn't too happy. She was bucking him off and trying to get away from him. Is she done copulating now? Should I try again in a few days? I am noticing some swelling starting to begin in her but I'd like to know if I should still continue introducing her with the male.

My next question is, how many days after the pre-lay shed should I expect eggs?

Thanks all!

Erik,

It looks to me like the female is done mating as evidenced by the swelling you noted plus the 'bucking' away from him. All you need to do is continue feeding her and she will eventually stop feeding a couple of weeks before the pre-lay shed. Then, after the pre-lay shed, it takes about 5 to 12 days after the shed for her to lay good eggs.

Good luck !

Thanks Ray. I will continue feeding as all of my females are feeding very well right now. I will update again when and if I get some eggs :D
