What should my humidity be in my incubator?
The relative humidity inside of the incubator is irrelevant. The RH inside of the EGG BOXES is what is important. The RH inside the egg boxes should be very near 100%.
Thanks for the info. What if it was at 80 for a couple days.....do you think the eggs will die?
Nope...the eggs can stand RH in those levels for an extended time, especially if they are partially burried in a slightly damp substrate. I go no substrate, so I need my humidity near 100%. As long as the eggs don't begin to dimple prematurely (as in within the 1st 5 to 6 weeks), then you are fine...
O good yea they are in vermiculite bedding....moistened.
i just had the last of 3 clutches hatch. all were no substrate and all maintained a relative humidity of 85% during the entire incubation period. they all hatched at around 53-55 days and i didn't lose a single egg.
It's really the only way to go. Takes all the worry out and gives outstanding hatch rates. I know I'll never go back...
this was my 1st year so i've never tried the traditional substrate method. i had great success with the no sub method so i have no reason to try any other methods. no fungus and no mortality. can't ask for much more!!
