55 Days....?

fattiesnleos May 10, 2007 01:21 PM

okay i have an egg that just hatched at 55 days. it has been incubated for female never going above 93 degrees and a normal temp between 80.5-82.0. it just seems a little early to be hatching in my opinion. i though the female incubation time was around 60-90days? am i just totally blowing it and this is normal?

I think its to warm and you will have a hot female.

fattiesnleos May 10, 2007 02:00 PM

too warm?????????...lol thats what your supposed to incubate females for (80-82). a hot female happens when an egg is incubated over 92 degrees. well at least as far as what i can tell and thats what it says on ron trempers website. i have never wanted to try it, haha

Read your post very well, you said never going above 93 leading me to think that this is what the temp was always set at.

Not reading the rest of the paragraph was my fault.....

fattiesnleos May 10, 2007 06:50 PM

sorry guess were both at fault...

This isn't unusual in my experience. During breeding season, my egg hatch dates tend to be very variable. I have had eggs incubated at 80 degrees hatch in 50 days before. I have had male incubated eggs at 88 degrees hatch in 60 (and they've all turned out to be the sexes I wanted) I guess it kind of depends on the babies, and how developed they are and if they're ready to come out. As long as you are sure of the incubation temp, you'll more than likely get the sex you want even if the hatch day is a few days off of the norm. Have fun with your babies! -The Geckofantic

thanks, im glad to hear that. the other clutchmate hasnt hatched yet but its going to be a patternless. i incubated last year at 85 and got all males, i got a new thermometor this year. haha, dont want that to happen again. its hard to sell 20 normal males.

Geckofanatic23 May 10, 2007 09:02 PM

I feel your pain, I'm checking the temp on my female incubator like a madman, I try not to have more than 2-3 males a year. I just hatched out these two pretty females below last month, just took these pics today. Too cute, huh? The bottom girl hatched out on 4/8, and is a little super grower. Takes a million mealworms a night it seems. Also, normally it takes my babies 3-4 months to accept my prescence, and she's eating out of my hand already and she'll calmly ride on my hand when I move her for rack cleaning, just an awesome little critter.

very nice looking babies. yeah on their second day of eating they started to let me watch them with their shoeboxes open. cutest damn thing ever. i check my hovas about 5 times a night and 10+ during the day...driving me crazy! i have some fatties that are also laying right now and i cant beleive they are on their 5th clutch and i can see more eggs forming. they are first time breeders. i am gunna have to get more racks or something, haha. i just got 4 from RBI Plastics.

By the way, whats the longest you have ever had to wait for a clutch mate to hatch? ive never had any take longer then 24 hrs. for them bothe to come out. this clutch is pushing 24 hours in the next hour or so. im just a worried mom i suppose.

Spiddy May 11, 2007 02:08 PM

I've finally given up on the hova and ordered a more high-end incubator. I'm always stressed out with the hova and forever tinkering with that dumn wafer thermostat!

fattiesnleos May 11, 2007 02:17 PM

hahaha...i know, i hear ya. once i sell these guys i plan on getting two nice incubators. those stupid hovas are all over my living room and i want something with a built in thermostat. they only hold 9 deli cups too. i want something bigger and better. as if work and school doesnt stress you out enough, then you got your pets and hobby stressing you out too.

amoredelmorte May 11, 2007 02:33 PM

I so went back to the shoe box method after owning a hova with quickness, it wasnt even funny.
