Pandale Rd Question, .....this weekend?

boomslang2050 May 10, 2007 10:33 PM

Hey all I'm going to be out in Val Verde this Sat. & Sun. I have never herped pandale road and was thinking about giving it a try on Saturday. Any suggestions? It sounds like pandale paved has some ok habitat that is few and far between. Is Pandale dirt road continuous habitat from the Pandale to Langtry? Basically I don't want to be driving a long time between rock cuts. Is anyone else planning a trip this weekend? I'll be in a white jeep, you can stop and say hello just please use good manners and don't pull up to the same cut i'm on and start blazing the flood lights. Any suggestions about pandale will be appreciated. By the way i'll probably be on Juno on Sunday.

My family and I will be out there this weekend, and I usually hunt Pandale dirt at sundown, but if they have not graded the road in the last few days, it's going to suck really bad because of all the rain, so only time will tell. The pandale paved can pay off but you have to hit it just right. The first 5 miles (from 90) of that road are the best as far as I'm concerned. We will be in a white chevy express van. See ya.

I have hunted the pandale dirt for about 41 years. At mile 8 and mile nine from langtry, I have collected a number of alterna. I would drive the first 10 miles. About 1 mile down the road from the tracks north is a hill. It is called Blairs hill from the large amount of alterna collected on it in the past. I actually caught 2 at the same time on the hill. Most of the area to the north for about 4 miles has been mined for the boquillas flag stone which has wrecked alot of habitat.

i've found the first 4 miles or so to be the most productive...of course...chamberlin's blair's hill....then up to the sheep sign...i've scored 2 alterna phase lookin' blair's there.....tihn orange/alternate dots....and a few same ol'/ sameol' blair's.....if you're gonna do the dirt i'd recommend a kidney belt..and use a rental vehicle....the first couple of miles on the paved pandale are ok....after that it flattens out
