I am having a problem with some mold on my first clutch. The temp in the incubator is 81-82 with 80% humidity. The spangnum moss doesn't seem too wet so I don't know what is causing it. The eggs don't seem to be turning color so I believe they are still good. Is anybody else having this problem? What solutions have any of you used in the past to combat mold? Thanks.
Ken

i had a problem last year with using moss and getting mold, so i started from scratch and made a new nest box and used all aquarium filter media, foam blocks and filter floss (white cotton like stuff) i figuered that stuff is all inert, then it couldnt mold up on me. i wiped the mold off of the eggs and put them in that nest box, i plan do do the same set up again this year, you just have to pay closer attention to the humidity with that set up, it just doesnt hold water that well, due to the mold i lost two eggs, but once i switched the rest hatched flawlessly. email me and i will explain my exact set up

Stay away from the spagnum. I lost two clutches over the last year to spagnum. It is hard to get good quality spagnum, even from the orchid people. I use all vermiculite now. I give it a little sterilization in the microwave as well.

I had mold in 2005 and spoke to our vet who has also raised snakes in the past, he told me to mix 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and gently wipe the eggs with mold on them with it. it worked fine for me.
I also use wipe containers to incubate my eggs in, I have a toddler and one night last year i had an unexpected batch of eggs, since i live in such a rural area the closest place to get totes was 45 minutes away and at 1 o'clock in the morning i was't going to drive it so I used an empty wipes box, since the wipe boxes are treated some how to prevent mold on wipes i never got mold, so i tried 2 clutches in wipe containers then 2 in plastic totes and the 2 in the totes molded and the reusable wipe boxes didn't. So now i save all wipe containers for eggs.
I also use unscented baby wipes to spot clean snake containers and to wipe the snakes down before i give them to someone to handle.
