I have to say that i was deadly afraid of snakes until my son wanted one and talked me into holding it. We argue over who is going to hold the snake. We have an Albino Black Rat snake. So I decided to go buy myself a snake so I can have my own. I think i shocked myself. I bought a Amel reverse okeetee baby. I am trying to figure out if it is a male or a female. How can you tell when they are so tiny?? It is only 10 inches long. I hold it all the time. Is it bad to hold them alot???

Congrat's on your second snake.I have a feeling it wont be the last one you buy eitherAs for sexing let it get some size to it and have someone probe it for you.I dont recommend popping it for sexing as this can go very wrong if not done in the right hands. As long as it's eating and isnt trying to fight to get away from you handling him probably wont harm him.I like to think of it as snake exersize.Good Luck and have fun...Paul

It's hard to stop when the addiction gets a firm grip. Best to stick to one until you're sure you're ready to deal with this Brave New World.
Handling a lot is fine as long as it's feeding.

You know that potato chip saying "you can't have just one" well that is the same thing for snakes. I started with one okeetee male in Feb and presently I am waiting for #6 and 7 to arrive at the end of the month. If I had the space, I would probably have ordered a few more. As it is I had to pick the colors that I liked the best. I keep telling my husband that after Christmas I am going to get a couple more. I converted a spare bedroom into a "snake room" and plan on building a rack system so I can have save space and have more snakes. They are all so beautiful and fun to keep. Welcome to the "good" addiction.
