Update on "Doesn't Look Good" Jackson's...

ToniaD Aug 14, 2003 10:42 PM

Well, after force-feeding Bob Jackson per the vet's instructions, he pooped for me yesterday. I took a sample back to the vet, 70 miles one-way, for an exam. Today I found out there was 3 Giardia present; the vet said that's a pretty significant amount. She's calling a prescription into my pharmacy. For this morning's feeding, I mixed some chicken baby food & FFs; I also added some AcidophiLiz to condition his GI tract for the med he'll be receiving. He's drinking on his own & is alert & somewhat active in the morning, but still sleeps alot. He does move around his cage for thermoregulation, whereas for the previous 2 days he was hanging upside-down right under the Repti-Sun 5.0. He's still not eating on his own. Also, today he didn't seem to show his stress colors as often or as intense. I don't know how he's still hanging in there, but he is!

Good to hear that you are discovering the ailments.

It's really common for wild-caught chameleons to have parasite loads. Multiply that with the shipping and acclimation stress, and you have a good shot at a sick chameleon. Importers will usually treat their shipments right away for parasites..

Good luck.. I'm glad to hear of the progress.. (Even though it is a small amount of progress, it's progress still the same)

One question: What did the vet prescribe? Oral? Injection?

Thanks,
Joe

Not sure yet; the pharmacy says she hasn't called anything in today, so I'm calling her (the vet) tomorrow. I figure the wrong # to the pharmacy got written down.
I plan on emailing the seller, but I'm not quite sure what to say or how to say it yet; I'm pretty picky about my wording when it comes to that sort of thing.
Keep on keepin' your fingers crossed!
