Feeding observation

jmartin104 May 11, 2007 07:27 AM

I have heard in the past and have noted this on many of my own animals, that BPs tend to slow down their feeding at a certain age: from around 8 months to 1 year of age. Has anyone else noticed anything similar?

It would be interesting to know if this is an average and why. Too bad we don't have a large repository of information on the BP.

I've found it to be true that about 40%-50% of my bps do take a fast of at least a month at about this age. I've also heard it connected to snakes about 500-800 grams.

Other push on through with no hesitation.

I also think there are seasonal factors involved.

For instance, a snake born early in the year may begin fasting at some point the following winter. However, a snake born in teh alst quarter of the year or so tends to make it into next breeding season without any feeding problems.

So yes, I'd agree that your size estimation is about right, but there also appears to be a size/maturity combination.

Just what I've noticed. Opinions welcome.

most seem to go off-feed at about 8 months of age which seems to correspond with the 500 gram mark.

I see it at the 500-800 gram range here. The ones that never skip a meal make it worth waiting for the others, for me anyway.

Intresting I just noticed this two months ago happening with my pastel. Lately he has been a ferocious eater but he did for sure have what seemed like a very long fast. He is now about 900 grams.
