Rack system assistance needed

Spiddy May 11, 2007 01:51 PM

I'm in the process of shifting from a tank system to a rack one. Currently, with my tanks, I use low-wattage red lights in additional to the UTHs. I do this mostly so I can observe them. But with the rack system, it will be completely dark at night during feeding time. As nocturnal creatures, can they see and feed in utter darkness? In the wild, there would at least be moonlight to assist them. But these racks are really dark, and I don't think an overhead light would help much at all. Just wondering if they'll manage. Thanks!

just keep a night light in the room if you are worried, but even in the wild sometimes there is no moon for a while.

Thank you. I know that you use racks, and I was hoping you'd reply. I will do as you suggest and keep some ambient light in the reptile room (my converted garage).

here is a quick photo of my racks. the two tall racks on the side we made, the shoebox racks i picked up used, and the short racks under the shoe box racks are from RBI Plastics and have dividers in all of them for more enclosures but with the luxery of having the option to minimize or expand. they are very nice but are un-occupied right now. they dont realy get any light at night either. i also attached a pic of my crested racks that my boy friend made for me. day geckos are in the top right and in the center is my gargoyle but all the rest are cresteds.

Wow! I love that rack system of yours. I just have a homemade melamine one, that can hold roughly 24 geckos. Very pretty Crestie tanks you have there too, Banana would ditch me in a second to live in those lol.
