Public Apology

Sighthunter May 11, 2007 04:10 PM

I would like to offer a public apology to the Grey Banded Kingsnake forum for my post on Big Bend Geckos it was in poor taste. No one wants to be in a position to have to apologize but an apology is in order. Sometimes I do not think things through and giving locations of endangered wildlife was in poor taste. I will be in the area on the 16th. I will be in a car with blacked out windows wearing sunglasses.

I for one, Sighthunter, see a bigger man in an apology, and although I can only speak for myself, I accept. Just know the powers that be monitor this forum and will look on us all as such. Give us a shot of the red coach and chalk it up to learning experience!

Endangered, or state-listed threatened? Seems like alterna were in a similar situation not too long ago...

...not that I'm condoning collection of TE herps. I guess I figure if someone has the audacity to ask for locales on a web forum, they're creating a trail for LE to follow, should the need arise.

I asked the same question on another forum, received many replies, followed one's advice, and got the pics I hoped to get (though my timing was not optimal, the locale was excellent). However, I think my reputation as an "above-board" kind of guy helps.

Based on personal experience, reticulatus are more common than brevis; seeing as how I've found one of the former, and none of the latter! Sometimes I think a similar mindset governs the designation of TE species! Regardless, GENERALLY SPEAKING, bulldozers eliminate more species than the herpers ever will.

I respect the apology and have no problem accepting it. As others have said, it takes a big man to apologize, and the retics may not warrant their protected status. I tend to believe they are not so much rare as just highly localized. However, as long as they are protected, we should encourage everyone to respect that designation (even while arguing against it).

One question: Have you sent a request to KS to have the post removed?

Yes, there has been a request to romove the post.

You didn't do anything that really requires a public apology. Just don't post localities in the future. If kingsnake.com bans you, don't worry, you're just one of MANY. They don't really need a valid reason, for instance, I'll probably get banned for this.
Just reregister and post.

Alterna people are generally alright folk, I don't think that many of them would ask for an apology...
