What do you all use for your hatchlings? I am really not trying to go out and buy 25 water bowls.

Thanks,

I am blessed i work for a place that makes customized dog bowls (and a ton of other customized things)and i get to take the ones they mess up for free. I think some people just use deli cups for hatchlings.

We use the disposable 8oz deli cups with the water bowl lids from superior enterprise. We order the un-punched cups and then a few 1000 lids they work very well, and you just throw them out when you sell the animal or when they get dirty, no more washing bowls.

Dollar store 79 cents dog bowls they work as hides also. They have two areas that are cut out and they go right under them..

Dollar Store mini food bowls & craft bowls.

Bleach, dishwasher & save them again for the next time.

Also using plastic tubs from the Dollar Store for my babies.

Love your DNR pastel male. He's hot!

and please dont take this the wrong way.

But shouldn't you have factored the housing, food, maintainance , potential vet bills, etc... in before you went ahead and bred 25 living animals that you now have to care for?

Just a thought.

I'm looking for alternatives. I got hides, a vet, seperate tubs, blah blah blah. I am just seeing how others do it and cheaper and or more efficiant ways of doing things.

I checked out your web-site and you really seem to be putting your money where your mouth is...

I read your post quick and was like...another person breeding, just to breed, but you obviously have a plan.

It never hurts to check into things like you are doing.

...and I should read before I speak..my bad.

Good luck Dave!

No worries

Im not big on people breeding just to breed either. Ive been working on my site and my collection for a couple of years now! Thanks for checking out my site too.

Old school.......plywood cages and tuna cans for water bowls........? kitty litter for substrate....or floor tiles.......hides are any cardboard boxes........

that's what used to happen.......

........you can use all kinds of stuff for water bowls...I have hundreds of plastic containers that electric tape comes in (from work)......they flip.......

best bet is to just get ceramic little bowls.....flat smooth sides and no lip around the top........heavier the better.....

8 oz deli cups alone will work fine for a while - once they start putting on some weight they'll start tipping them. I found some glass dishes at the dollar store that fit the 8 oz solo cups - so I bought them out - works great no more tipping. Check your local $1 store you might find something that will work - soup cups work great - but don't use anything with a looped handle.

Petco has some little plastic dishes and small crocks in the small animal department for like $1.00 (plus or minus depending on size) that will work ok for hatchlings.

Also - Someone on here uses little bird feeders hooked to the side of the tub - those look like they'd work really well - but I don't know how much they cost.

Good luck!

hotglue an 8oz. deli cup to the bottom of your tub. then drop another deli cup inside that one, and change it out as needed.

alicecobb May 12, 2007 04:45 AM

I tried that trick after seeing that Greg Graziani does it that way. Mine keep popping up (coming unglued). Any hints?

Hot glue has that tendency , Maybe a little crazy glue, just make sure to air it out real good.

royalkreationz May 13, 2007 09:59 AM

use more glue

methistina May 13, 2007 01:25 AM

setup that I use on my adults, only on a smaller scale. 2 oz delicups and 2" PVC couplings. They have to be filled or changed a little more often, but I am not cleaning water bowls that way. The cups are about $17.00 for 2000 at sams.
