IJCP VS JCP

diablo28 May 12, 2007 01:34 AM

Hi,

I went to the local petstore today and found baby IJCP and small JCP.

Small JCP - about 30 inches. little bit nippy. In fact I got tagged once, but It was my fault. I really like its bright yellow/black coloration. it was very active on my had, and looked very healthy overall.

Baby IJCP - about 14~15 inches. very mellow. as thick as girth of a pen. nice rich creamy/brown color. However, It seemed a bit weak - she couldn't constrict my finger while I was handling.

these are my questions

1. I like JCP because of coloration and the fact its not a hatchling. However, It is a bit nippy. Can I still tame her?
2. I like IJCP because of its smaller size than JCP, and mellow characteristic. However, I am afraid it is still a baby and looked still somewhat soft. Does all baby IJCP behave sameway like her?

The size of snake matters for me because I live in small single room =(. I like JCP's color more than IJCP's, but it is a bit bigger and aggresive. Which one would you recommend?

it would be grateful if you can help me. Thanx =)

I have an adult pair of Irian Jayas, and I relly like them. As a matter of fact I have a clutch of 15 eggs in the incubator right now and they will be hatching any day now. The babies can be a little fiesty when young and they mellow out as they get older. Also I like them better over the Jungle Carpets because of the size. IJ don't get as big as the Jungles. My adult pair are about 5-6 feet long and not heavy at all. You will not go wrong with the Irians. How much are they asking at the Pet shop for the Irians?

Good Luck

Tom

Ha!

I had the same dilemma as you, so I've got both now! 8-D

My JCP was HELL ON WHEELS when I got him- would bite me several times during each handling, would strike at my kids heads as they would walk by, etc.

With regular handling for very short periods, he has mellowed WAY down- hasn't bitten/struck in a couple months now.

The Irian Jaya pair are total angels- never have even taken a defensive posture from day one, but I got them a little older.

Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed, especially since it will be your only snake, (for now, anyway!) and you'll have more time to dedicate to work with it.

My JCP shortly after I got him:

Now (couple of weeks ago)

My IJ's:

Female:

You are welcome! I am also happy with my 1 pair and several Ball Pythons and specially my Honduran Collection. I just posted some pictures of my 3rd Hondo laying eggs. I have 3 clutches and 7 more to go. I love this Hobby. I love the Jungle Carpets for thier colors but they get a bit to big for my taste.

Take care
Tom
