Two cage related questions...

ChrisGilbert May 12, 2007 02:50 PM

First, for those of you with a shelf in you cages, do you put heat on it also? (If you don't have shelves in your cages, what would you do if you did?)

Second, how long is the cold lead on the Zoo-med heat cable?

I have one that is 39' (12 meters). It's cold lead is 6'.

I have one cage with a shelf. It is actually 2 Boaphile 3' cages bolted together, with a side pass through, and the shelf on the warm side of the cage is currently heated with an Ultratherm heat pad taped to the underside.

It works really well and the big fmeale who inhabits this cage has been using most of the interior space lately in order to thermoregulate. I suppose the shelf also helps to give her a moderate amount of exercise.

Those Boaphile cages have worked really well for me for years now!

Thanks for the info Denny, that's what I was looking for. I'll have to figure out how I'm going to heat it now. (well actually I have to order it first)

Zoo Med heat cables comes in five sizes. The four smaller sizes (11.5', 14.75', 23', and 39',) all have 6' cold leads. The new 52' size, which is the same cable used by one of the major cage/rack companies, has only a 2' cold lead. There is a blue line on all cables to distinguish where the cold lead ends.

Thanks Phil. I just didn't know how long the lead was and I needed to find out so I could order one.

Thanks for pointing out the difference.
