Somebody brought this to me yesterday nioght b/c they found i in their yard.. they beleive that it was their neighborspet but they moved.... she is friendly and not shy by any means.... she's large measuring at 7 inches long and 4.5 inches wide (carapace).....i tried fruits and veggies and she wouldnt touch them... when i came home i found a can of box turtle food that i had laying around and she went crazy for it...i also had a can o' snails (so gross)and tried some of those but she didnt touch them.... so im tryi ng to figure out if it is a pet or if its native....im in NW connecticut so i know there are a few around....they are really building up my town, puting stores in, if it is wild it traveled into their yard from habitat loss...i know where the people live and not far away they are building Target

Thanks for any help!!

That's an Eastern box turtle, native to CT. It is also a 'Species of Special Concern' in CT (protected status), meaning that it is not legal to collect them from the wild.
Contact your DNR for more information.

Thanks... thats what i thought it was and just wanted to make sure before i released it.... ive dealed with special concern species here before...i had a wood turtle brought to me just last summer...i'm going to contact them and figure out a place to release it.... i feel bad because it did come into residential areas because of habitat destruction... i know that they cant be released far from where they are found

thanks once again!!!

it seems like everything around (in ct) is a special concerns species when it comes to herps lol
