Quasi-Business related ?/mild venting

primevalbeauty May 13, 2007 11:54 AM

Just curious as to whether anyone else has any input. I have been using my business name for over five years. Last year I took my website down, and let the domain go, because I wasn't producing enough to justify the site (hindsight being what it is...should've kept the domain regardless). Needless to say an enterprising youngster has snatched up the domain and is currently using the name I created back in 2002. While it hasn't really created any problems yet. It could at the least in the future be confusing to my customers and colleagues (I guess that's you bums I have made an effort to contact her in order to buy the domain back if need be. No response as of yet. I think it's mainly the idea that someone is using the name that I painstakingly came up with. Some of us rack our brains to come up with something that explains both who we are and what we are trying to accomplish, and it eats away at you a bit when someone sees a name they like and arbitrarily decides to skip the whole creative process and just use that one. Any suggestions? It may not have been a concious thing on her part and we're all on the same team here (mostly also don't think it's going to effect me much except mentally. Guess I'll see if I get a response and go from there.

out of curiosity what is the business name. It is possible that this person had no idea that it was previously used...

Primeval Beauty
There is that possibility. I just can't see someone else randomly coming up with that name.

there is also another guy online and in here somewhere using JY......he gets BAD feedback on the fauna classifieds' board of inquiry.........he is not me.........I told him to stop using JY also but he don't give a hoot......screw it........LOL....I am good........he can be whatever........

.......actually there are at least 7 Jeffery Yohe's in Pa alone......and they all can use the name........

There was a Scales and Tails in Steubenville Ohio for a while as well. I bought my first Boa there 10 years ago.

The first baby corns are pipping today - more to come!

This may be the first year I produce my first ever BPs. My '05 pastel male and '05 albino male each bred a few normal '04 females, although only one female was really nice and big, over 2000 gms. If not this year, then next year for sure (I think). Nice to do something different for a change.

Will hopefully produce some pretty Amazon tree boas too - I love those guys, maybe even more than either corns or BPs!

Wouldn't really worry about it...it's you that people will be buying from no matter what name you use.

It's not devouring my soul or anything Just mildly annoying. And I don't think it's in any way deliberate or competition based. And the site is more personal website than anything else so I should probably suck it up and let it go... Really just curious whether anyone else has run in to similiar situations.

If the site that has your old domain is not in direct competition with you, then don't lose sleep.

You should have kept the name registered & used a 1-liner splash page till you were ready to update it again. Lesson learned, & hopefully many others reading this post will pay attention too!

A little bit of Search Engine Marketing with your new site will go a loooong way, combined with offline marketing & strategic Kingsnake ads... will keep your reputation right where it was, no worries.
