superworms are bad. But stop feeding him/her and then offer some crickets. He will eat them then.

Why do you say that superworms are bad?

There is some confusion when refering to superworms and kingworms. Generally, superworms refer to regular mealworms that have been grown to a larger size using growth hormones or steroids. Obviously, you wouldn't want to feed those to your cham. Kingworms(zophobas morio) are a seperate species with a darker color and larger size than mealworms. They are ok to use to supplement your chams diet. I assume ana is referring to the zophobas. Incidentally, the reports of zophobas chewing through the stomach of a live cham are completely false. Zophobas drown quickly in water, digestive juices will do them in even quicker.

There certainly is confusion, because this post is incorrect LOL... Kingworms are regular mealworms that are grown large artificially. Superworms (zophobas) are a separate species (and cannot be refrigerated). Superworms are great to use semi-sparingly, where mealworms or kingworms should probably not be used at all.

hey there,
something i think your chameleon will definitly eat is phoenix worms,i don't know what it is about them, but chams love them..you should go to www.mulberryfarms.com and look at their selection of feeders..but definitly get some phoenix worms since you would be able to feed your chameleon phoenix worms all the time since they would be like feeding your chameleon crickets all the time, but the phoenix worms would be better for your chameleon then crickets..i'd also suggest getting some silk worms or horn worms, chameleons tend to really like them since they don't see many green bugs(horn worms)..super worms are not good for your chameleon to be given all the time..if you buy the things i recommended and he doesn't eat them at first, stop feeding him for like 2 days then show him the new stuff you got for him and i'm sure he'll be eatting right away..hope this helps..

That is why they are bad. There are many other insects that can be fed to provide a variety. I use roaches as a staple. Perhaps you should look into them. Also...try what I suggested....your chameleon will not die if you don't feed it for a couple of days to a week. It will get hungry and eat what is offered. But defenitly try roaches!

Interesting, Tyler's post prompted me to do some googling and I found some websites selling zophobas as kings and some selling them as supers, but in Tyler's defense, there seem to be more calling them supers. The reptile stores in my area call em kings. Perhaps the safest is to use the latin name, Zophobas morio. At any rate, zophobas are a safe supplement, while the hormone raised mealworms are not. Also, I concur with Brian about roaches. They never die off, even when neglected, they are easily gutloaded, they breed profusely, they can be grown to a variety of sizes, and the non climbers like dubias are easily contained and captured.
