Humidity levels

bakercl1 May 13, 2007 04:36 PM

I'm having trouble keeping the humidity percentage in the right range with my iguana's enclosure. It's an open wire-mesh cage, and I'm using cypress mulch for bedding. I mist him two or three times a day and the humidity still stays fairly low. I'm not sure what to do about it, any suggestions?

I don't recommend open cages like this unless it is for sunning
outside. It is pretty much impossible to keep temps and
humidity controlled.

I would seriously consider a closed habitat(wood and glass work
great). By placing my fluorescent fixtures inside the cage
it warms it during the day. I keep my basking light on top
with a cut out covered with a piece of medal caging so there is
no chance of burns or knocking it over.

One last thing, I would get rid of the bark/mulch. It is
dangerous due to possible ingestion and holds bacteria. I use regular old newspaper and use fake plants to conceal it.

Here is one of my cages we built. It works great!

Hope this helps

ah, thank you for your response. About how much do you think it would run me to build such an enclosure?

We used plywood (less expensive) and plexiglass on this one.
I believe the total was around $200. It seems like a lot but
price some from companies that make them and see how cheap this
really is.
