Problems getting worse!!

SavvGawd May 13, 2007 05:11 PM

I feel like my little dragons problems are getting worse. I bumped the basking spot up to 113 on 24 hrs a day, stopped feeding any worms, made it so that my other dragon cannot see her and stress her out, and now she has stopped eating, shows no signs of strength, and constantly wiggles her head back and forth. When I sprayed her with water a few minutes ago, she began shaking her head furiously back and forth flopping around in her cage. What is goin on! She was not like this up until a few days ago out of the 3 weeks I have had her. For the first 5 days she did not have a constant UVB source, could this be part of it? My other female has been raised identical and is thriving to this day. I really appreciate any help and will be getting a vet schd for this week.

first of all you dont want your basking temps on 24hrs a day. even with a sick dragon this is not needed and can do more harm than good. they still need a regulated day/night period. with the shaking and tremors you describe it may be spinal problems due to prey that was given that may have been too big. this causes spinal problems and impaction that cause tremors. rule of thumb for prey is nothing bigger than the space between your dragons eyes. just because a dragon can chomp on bigger prey and eventually get it down doesnt mean its good for them to do so.

not having UVB for a long period could have contributed as well, but 5 days isnt usually a huge problem. what kind of UVB bulb are you using and how far away is it from your dragon????

get your dragon to a VET ASAP. find an emergency vet if you have to, do not wait until they make time for you. tell them its an emergency.

It's not UVB. When was the last time she pooped? You could try a warm bath. 85 degrees is good. This time of year, day 14 hours/night 10 hours.
