wayne13114 May 13, 2007 05:43 PM

it's mothersday and the wife went out with her family and I got a day off herping in. my main goal was a northern two lined and a pickerel frog. after I struck out on the two lined I tried and see how many herps i could see in a day.

first stop was a pond on my mothers property good for the usual

green frog

northern leopard frogs

and a pickerel frog

and it's belly

i also saw a few midland painteds but was waiting to go to another spot for pics

old beaver pond

ok so I walked around this whole thing hoping to find some good sized snappers, no luck but a few critters were out and about

midland painted turtle carapace,

and of course a plastron shot of the same turtle

also kicked up some northern watersnakes, 22 to be exact

an older pic

this is a crummy pic, but I couldn't get to close this snake was eating a bullfrog

also a few northern ribbonsnakes

ok so I get done walking around that. time to get the northern twolined salamander......but instead this and a very crummy pic. not to good a photoing sals.

northern dusky salamander

no twolined this day but a few northerrnred backs were seen

I also fount some red spotted newts first is the eft stage one

and an adult

ok with the day going good and striking out on my target species, they are fairly common just haven't seen one yet this year. decided to go flip some trash here

and found some more snakes first a few garetrs

finally a eastern milk and a screamer moved to road for pics.

and quite a surprise for this area a northern ringneck snake

and one in hand to close out the day

saw and not photoed were
TMTC bullfrogs very sketchy

Wayne,
Call me sometime and let me know when you're going out. I'd love to do some herping around here. Thanks

Awesome! What a great day! I really like that second Garter - the one with the green on the neck. Good stuff.
