Thayeri or Ruthveni?

mfoux May 13, 2007 05:54 PM

Here's a king I bought from a local pet shop. They said he was a Thayeri, but he looks more like a Ruthveni to me. Anyone know for sure? Whatever he is, he's got the best personality of any snake I've ever owned. Totally calm, even in blue, shed and feeding. He even seems to like being handled and climbs right up to my hand when I open his cage. He's a little thin in the picks, but putting on weight now.

I would still think thayeri, but without knowing the breeder it would be hard to know for sure. If he is not intending to use it for breeding purposes, I would not be worried. But if the snake was bought for a breeding project then i would get concerned.
It is a very nice snake and will make a wonderful pet but I personally would not use it for breeding purposes. Because there is always that chance that it could be a cross.
