Male not feeding

DanW May 13, 2007 08:34 PM

I have a healthy male Brooks King that stopped eating about 3 weeks ago. I believe this is because it is the season for love and his cage is close to 2 female brooks and 1 female eastern king. I chose not to breed him this year. He is beginning to lose weight but is not skinny by any means. How long will this starvation streak go on?

Thanks,
Dan

A few of my males just started eating but the majority have not. Some get very skinny. Not to worry, they will get back on a feeding schedule soon enough.

Why don't you place that male in the cages of the females instead of driving him nuts. Maybe when he gets his, he will eat.

most males go off food in my experience about 2months or so but, ive had several go as long as 4months! it might help to move him(if possible)away from the females(another room)or let him breed, and just keep offering food weekly. multible live fuzzies, hoppers sometimes are very enticing and bring them around, sometimes the release of breeding does it, eitherway it(feeding issues)will/usally do pass with time.
good luck,,,,,,,,,thomas davis
