Corn And Water

Tiredguy May 13, 2007 09:24 PM

I Just got a new 35g long tank for my young corn snake.. I was thinking of adding a water area in the tank.. blocking it off with glass that kinda thing, and having maybe like... 3g max filled with water.. My thoughts would be that it would help with the Humidity.. Was goign to put a small power head filter in...

any thoughts?? would it be a waste of space? would the snake ever go in it? could it be a risk?

I doubt the water area will get use unless the snake is in need of hydration, and there are much easier ways of providing moisture. A weekly or every 2-week or as needed soak of the snake in very shallow water does wonders for hydration. Then the cage can be essentially dry - much easier to maintain and clean that way.

Or, a plastic box with some damp sphagnum or eco-earth, eco-peat, etc makes a handy humid hide.

The water area in the tank would surely look cool. I just think you may find it taking more time for maintenance compared to other methods of providing humidity, coupled with the fact that cornsnakes are not the kind of snake to use that kind of setup in general.

yeah, I think you might be right, the more I've thought about it, the more he'd most likely just movie soil and shavings into the water making it a pain in the ass to clean all the time. Not to mention He really really seems to hate water... runs like a little girl every tiem I mist his tank...
