Just wondering if I could get some advice on feeding a young (yearling) eastern milk snake. I am first going to try a live pinkie washed with soap and leave it in
the tank overnight. After that, what would you advise? There are many
garter snakes around here as well and I was considering offering one of
those, or maybe just scenting a pinkie with it? I have also had experience with force feeding if need be, but wwould like to get it to eat on its own first if possible.

Try split head pink. But if that doesn't work a baby garter or runt corn is the way to go. Also anoles or skinks work well. Seems like some of the brooks and easterns are stubborn and will only eat more natural type prey to get started. Good luck.

Do as Mike has suggested first and if it happens that you have to scent, don't forget the power of the prey item's saliva...
That is... place a pinky in the mouth of a skink or a garter to make sure their saliva gets on the pinky.
I have had stubborn scarlet kings, e. kings, e. milks, etc. plus more all fall for this method...

as said try the pink with split head......
even just a couple pink heads....
it may be able to eat bigger than you think

I have taken pinks and cut the head and legs off and made a pinky burger with scissors out of the bodies and just left the burger on a plastic cup lid and they ate it overnight....*(long ago and wild yearlings)....

.....easterns here didn't eat garter or anole.......

always try the tuna water scent....works on alot of other stuff......

......pink heads or whole cut head pinks would be my first try
