That is a neat find. Currently, I live in GR. Spent last Saturday looking for E. Fox Snakes over near Port Huron(no luck). Would really like to see a 5 line here in Mi. Any tips? Pretty sure this will be last descent weekend as the growth is getting too thick. Thanks, zak.

I usually find them in and around Fire wood, scrap wood or stump piles near a wooded edge. Look under anything. I've even found them under old galvinized metal sheets (old barn roofing?)and in stacked up lenths of 4x4s. Some place cool and moist with access to a sunny spot to bask. Oddly enough I never found them in the southern half of the lower. Good luck .

Thanks Quig, I have encountered alot of 5 lines...just not in MI. I enjoy "the field" and seeing a true MI 5 line would be tops. Just like a MI black rat vs. one in North Carolina...one easy, one very difficult. Do you have any locals? Hopefully this question is not some breach of etiquitte in todays world of guarded information. Again thanks for your post. Ever find the race runners down by Yipsi, MI? zak

At present the only five lined I have is an Arenac County resident . Pine snakes and black rats are two of maybe four or five Michigan species I HAVEN'T found yet . I don't travel the state much anymore, and when I do I'm usually pressed for time so I don't stop and do searches in likely places LOL. I moved here from Oakland County specifically for the hog-nosed snakes . Spring thaw should bring out those and more skinks . Happy herpin'

LOL, we're a little off topic now, but yeah I've caught and kept them in Oakland county but not here in Arenac. Made the neighbors nervous as Hell LOL.
