Help me identify this snake

splarnum May 14, 2007 06:54 AM

The other night a snake was on our back porch. It was over 3 feet. It was black on it's dorsal side and was white and black banded on it's belly. We live in the suburbs of Virginia. Our backyard has very few trees although we do live near a forest w/ a stream. I have not been able to find any snakes online that match my discription. It was dark out so the colors might be slightly off. Please let me know if you have any idea what kind of snake it was. Thanks!

I'm not sure, but I have a couple ideas from your description. Try these links and let me know if you find it.
