Well I also just got back from my first alterna trip of the season. And to sum up what others have said, IT SUCKED. It was nice to get out there and satisfy my itchy spotlight finger. I hit pandale dirt before the sun went down and saw several horned lizards catching bugs on the road. I also saw a deer woooo hooo! I then herped 90 west to osman canyon then turned around and herped back to del rio. I saw two snakes the first was a night snake on a cut. The second was....could it be....it is....A ALTERNA!!!!!!!!!! Just outside of Comstock I spotted what i'm 95% sure was a very dark hued alterna. The snake was only sticking about an inch out of small but very deep crevice. As I got out and slowly made my way over the snake disappeared back into the rock face. Before it disappeared I saw light colored eyes on a uniformly dark gray head. I can't think of anything else it could be. The temps were already down to 65 so I left for about 25 mins then came back...no snake, came back the next night twice....no snake. So that was my suckyist part of my trip, seeing an alterna but having no way to get to it and leaving without so much as a picture. Oh well it will just have to be the one that got away. Sunday herped 277 early...squat, and herped to high bridge on 90....more squat except a squished bullsnake.
See you in June,
Nathan
